17CrNi6-6, 1.5918, 18NiCr5-4, 1.5810, 15CrNi6, 1.5919 – Case-hardening steel
Grade 17CrNi6-6, 1.5918 steel – medium-alloy case-hardening steel characterized by high wear resistance, outstanding core hardness, and excellent toughness.
Material formerly also known under the designation 15CrNi6, 1.5919, equivalent to 18NiCr5-4, 1.5810.
Grade 17CrNi6-6 (1.5918), 18NiCr5-4 (1.5810), and 15CrNi6 (1.5919) materials are suitable for case hardening and through-hardening up to a depth of 50 mm. This material exhibits higher core strength and toughness compared to standard case-hardening steels. The tensile strength of this steel ranges from 900 to 1200 N/mm². The material is used for the production of highly stressed machine components such as gears, shafts, crankshafts, connecting rods, camshafts, etc. This steel is also used for manufacturing cutting tools, pressing tools, woodworking tools, drawing and deep-drawing tools. Also for cold-forming rollers and measuring instruments. The heat treatment of this steel includes forging at a temperature of 1100–800 °C. Normalizing temperature is at 880–900 °C, soft annealing at 680–720 °C, and intermediate annealing at 620–640 °C. Hardening is carried out in oil at 830–860 °C, tempering at 150–200 °C, and case hardening at 860–880 °C.
Round drawn bars with a diameter of 13 mm in stock. Bars rolled to a diameter of 200 mm. Other dimensions available upon request.
